About New Asshole:

New Asshole journal strives for a critical dialogue surrounding the production of DIY art. It publishes writing concerned with the contextualization, theorization, and documentation of contemporary basement aesthetics. Each issue contains essays concerned with the nature of production, the placement of DIY art in the trajectory of history, the relationship with the institutional art space, and the manner in which art is received by the public. In addition to publications, New Asshole creates events such as lectures and panel discussions to further encourage public discourse. Copies of New Asshole can be purchased at AHN|VHS gallery.

About Me:

Manya Scheps studied fine arts at the University of Pennsylvania, where she founded New Asshole. Other projects since include co-founding Talking Pictures, an art theory reading group, writing monthly columns for various publications in Philadelphia, and curating Ascended Drifts,  geographically-based hip hop box sets. Her critical focus is on DIY art, its production, and its social implications.

Sometimes she is on the internet here, most times she’s at work here or at a bar here.
